Pendleton 8 Item: This Case Is Not 'That Case'

There is a lot of confusion among the general public- and in the media as well- between the Pendleton 8 case and other cases. This is completely understandable given the busy lives we live these days and the amount of information overload we get bombarded with daily.

         

Most people I meet mistake the Pendleton 8 case with a diffferant case which involves allegatons of rape in Mahmoudiya, Iraq. The Pendleton 8 is not that case.

Another case which people are unclear about is a case often referred to simply as Haditha, in the media. The Haditha case,involves allegations of massacre of innocent Iraqi civilians, and also is not the Pendleton 8 case.

Let me be very clear: The Pendleton 8 case is not the case which involves allegations of rape, or allegations of massacre.  They are three completely different cases.

The "Pendleton 8" case involves the alleged pre-meditated kidnapping and murder of an alleged Iraqi civilian by 7 Marines and a Navy  Corpsman.

                                 

Pendleton 8 Item: Solitary Confinement

According to the government the Pendleton 8 are being held in "Special Quarters" not in  solitary confinement, and in fact objects to use of the phrase solitary confinment when describing the Pendleton 8.

So just what is "Special Quarters" and what does it mean?

It means that the Pendleton 8 spend 22 hours out of every 24 hours alone, solo, locked in an 8x9 box...and have done so for the past 120 days.

The government defines solitary confinement as 24 out of 24 hours.

We Told You So...

Saturday, September 9th during my radio show I interviewed Tim Sullivan of The San Diego Union-Tribune.  Sullivan is the highly acclaimed sports writer who is covering the story of the shooting of San Diego Charger linebacker Steve Foley  by an off duty Coronado, CA police officer, in an unmarked car.

I reported on the air that a highly reliable source had informed me that Foley had a gunshot wound in the back of his leg, a story which had not yet been made public.

Four days after my on air announcement (Wednesday, 9-13-06),  photos of gunshots wounds to the back of Foley's leg were made public.

I said it before and I will say it again... when all is said and done the city of Coronado will be the big loser in this case...and that bridge will soon be a toll bridge, again.

The Rubber Hose Story, Clarified

This past Saturday during an interview on my radio show, attorney Jane Siegal  (attorney for Pfc John Jodka  of the Pendleton 8 ), clarified the story of the photo of the rubber hose.

I had previously written in a Washington Times article that the defense had entered into evidence, a photograph taken in a Camp Pendleton NCIS investigation room of a rubber hose on a whiteboard with the words "my psychological friend" written underneath.

This past Saturday Jane Siegal clarified that the rubber hose photo was from a NCIS investigation room in Iraq, and not Camp Pendleton as originally reported.

Nonetheless the photo does exist, has been entered into evidence and is disturbing.

Large Crowds, Public Safety Cited

La Jolla, CA- Concerns expressed by the Oceanside, CA police department over large crowds and public safety have forced radio talk show host and Washington Times columnist Rick Amato to broadcast today's show from inside the studio. The show was originally scheduled to be broadcast from within walking distance of the Camp Pendleton gates as a fundraiser and rally for the Pendleton 8.

"We will broadcast today's show as a fundraiser from the KCBQ studios", Amato said. "The good news is, this has become bigger than we expected. We're not finished yet. We are searching for a new venue to accommodate the larger crowd with public safety as a top priority. An announcement will be made when plans are solidly in place".

Today's show in addition to being broadcast on 1170 KCBQ in San Diego, is expected to draw an online audience from across America at www.KCBQ.com.

Fund Raising Event and Radio Broadcast Planned!

Demonstrations Spread in SoCal

Demonstrations of support for the Pendleton 8 are spreading in southern California.

For the second straight weekend a lively demonstration occurred in the upscale community of Huntington Beach, CA located in Orange County. In Oceanside, CA the number of demonstrators outside the gates of Camp Pendleton are growing in number, after having experienced an initial dip in mid-summer.

The personal motivation of each person demonstrating varies. After interviewing several of the demonstrators I have found their motivation generally boils down to one of four reasons: 1) They are upset at the government's mistreatment of the Pendleton 8   2) They have a general mistrust of the military judicial system  3) They are infuriated over a perceived presumption of guilt portrayed in the media  4) They believe the 'The Pendleton 8' are innocent.

Originally, demonstrations began outside the gates of Camp Pendleton and went largely unnoticed to the outside world. That all changed when a housewife and mother (and demonstrator) named Christina phoned in to the nationally syndicated Michael Savage Show . Savage brought national attention to both the treatment of 'The 8' and their supporters.

Defense attorney Joseph Low has said, "They (Pendleton 8) cannot see the demonstrators...They cannot hear the demonstrators...But they can feel their energy".

Demonstrations have also raised money to aid families of 'The Pendleton 8' with their legal defense fees.
