You don't sound as though you've had personal experience with the military justice system. As a former area defense counsel and circuit defense counsel in the Air Force JAG Corps, I can tell you that political pressure doesn't come into play. We have our own chain of command on the defense side and have at least as much legal firepower as the prosecution. If a soldier is entering into a plea agreement, he/she has to make it through a Care inquiry, and most military judges won't accept a guilty plea until they're sure the accused understands and agrees with the charges. No patience for the "railroad" argument here...
